I've been faced with a dilemma. I needed a convenient way to store my Heritage Redfish fishing kayak. My 2-car garage is out of the question because it's my wood shop. I had been storing it out back, hanging from the side of my shed. But what a hassle getting it out front.I didn't want to spend a ton 'o money because of my cheap, uh, I mean frugal, nature. So I pondered the matter for a few days and came up with a very workable, inexpensive, and secure plan.
I tend to do that with all my woodworking projects. I hate it when I search the web for plans and find a lot of "For just $19.95, you can download this PDF plan." That's why I'm providing this to you for free. True. Go here to read the canoe or kayak rack plan with detailed pictures.
The expense for the entire project was about $30, not including the tarp, bungee cords, security cable, and padlock, which I already had.
One of the best things about it is that it's right next to my truck; so when the mood to drag out the fly rod and go fishing in the bay strikes me, I don't have to waste any time. Ah yes, the life of a work-from-home freelance writer and webmaster. It's a good thing.
Here's what went down when my lovely wife came home from work the day I built the rack:
Wife: "OMG! You're not going to leave that thing in the front yard, are you!?"
Me: "Yup."
